About The LOCAL YOLK

I started with chickens in 2022 and fell in love with them. I started searching and discovering all the different breeds and stumbled upon the Puerto Rican Kikiriki (Kiris). They were so cute and was labeled the smallest chicken in the world. I had to see this for myself. I contacted a seller in Puerto Rico and had 4 shipped in in January 2024; one rooster and three hens. Yes, they were small. All under one pound with short stubby legs. They were adorable and each had their own personality. They had me hooked the moment I opened that box. That is where my journey begins.

About Kikiriki (Bantam) Chickens

The Puerto Rican Kikiriki bantam (sometimes referred to as Kiris or Exotic Kikiriki) chicken can have many features such as various types of fluffy heads like topy and vaulted (bone head), where there are structural bone changes. They can be tailless (aka Bolo or Rumpless). There are naked neck variations. There are fluffy cheeks and beards on some (a feature called lionhead).  There are roosters called Henny, which means they do not have rooster feathering and look more like a hen but still crow and can fertilize an egg. They come in all different colors and feather patterns, sizes and shapes. They are such a large variation in these chickens, you could easily find one that you love.

However, please note, the term 'Kikiriki' has been used synonymously as bantam in the US so it may be applied to other small breed chickens. Furthermore, Kiris (Puerto Rican Kikiriki) is not a true breed in the US as of now. It is more of a chicken breeding hobby. Since there are no APA standards for these tiny chickens, many breeders are developing different variations of these micro cuties. There are Silky, frizzle, and even fibro lines currently being worked on by different breeders.
